Using the TWISTER Instrument

This page outlines some of the costs, procedures, and rules for using TWISTER.

Cost

TWISTER is a very high performance characterization platform, so it's important to keep it calibrated and in full repair.  This is done by means of a holistic management strategy involving usage fees.  Current usage fees are $25/hour, however this may change according to input from the TWISTER Advisory Committee (TAC) at any time.  We are not trying to make money on this!  The fees are only to cover anticipated maintenance and repair costs.

Scheduling

Please contact any of the TWISTER faculty to schedule usage time.  You can also look at the calendar page to see when TWISTER is already scheduled for use.  If you require access to TWISTER outside of normal working hours, please let the faculty know.  Students and faculty may be able to help facilitate such requests.

Hardware Documentation and Procedures

Safety training and basic operations training will be required before using the equipment. If you're a new user, particularly with no experience in high frequency procedures, you will be requried to work with an OSU liaison initially.  This is mostly to protect the equipment, which is easily damaged by improper usage.

This documentation is meant to instruct you on how to operate the TWISTER instrumentation in a safe and efficient manner. To avoid harm to yourself or the equipment, it is crucial that you read and understand the following documents before you begin.

Equipment handling:

Proper use of high frequency coaxial connectors/cables
